Vencedor nos últimos dois anos do  prémio "Fritz Walter Medal" que distinge os melhores jogadores por categoria, Ginter pode ser usado tanto como defesa central ou como médio e destaca-se em ambas as posições. Começou como médio ao longo da sua formação e só mais tarde começou a desempenhar funções de Defesa Central e com muita eficácia. Forte no jogo aéreo, nas coberturas, agressivo no desarme e com muita facilidade em iniciar o processo de construção. Apresenta uma compostura exemplar e uma maturidade bastante acima da média tendo em conta a sua idade. O Friburgo tem por hábito apostar em jovens e poderá beneficiar a muito breve prazo da venda de Ginter.
